26.2...all in the rain

Renae and Laura did it! All 26.2 miles in the rain. They did great.

Before Picture
I took them to the bus at 4:30am

Not very many runners were eating the ice cream so
Renae got some for everyone...Yummers!

Since I had to drop out I didn't run but
we still came for moral support. It is so great
to have family to cheer you on. Especially at
mile 16!

Happy Independance Day!

I love the 4th of July and this year was no different. The morning started early by running the Freedom Run. Matt had plans to run it but because of his knee he had to back out.

Joe, Julianne, Laura, Jen and me

We went boating and had dinner at the lake. We have started spending the night of the 4th of July at the lake. That is the time most people head home to bbq and do fireworks so that means we have the lake to ourselves! We had almost the whole family at the Lake minus Norm and Diane and Darrell.

These are pictures from the night before at the lake. It was just Matt, me, Nate and Tara. Hopefully someone will send me some pictures of the 4th.

Nate's attempt at a dive

Pushing Tara in. They are so mean!

Matt and Me

After we went boating on the 4th Matt and I decided to try and find a spot to watch the Stadium of Fire fireworks so we jumped on the scooter and cruised around. We saw the whole fireworks display but the real finale is when we saw the park go up in flames near our house. We saw it burn and burn and burn even before the fire trucks were there. Luckily they put it out fast and no buildings were burned.

The time has come...

I am a bit ashamed to say that I do not take very good care of my feet. Especially during the winter time when I don't wear sandals and running brings upon very gross looking calluses and very rough heels. Anyway, about 8 weeks ago I wore my first pair of sandals in public. Suddenly I realized how disgusting my feet looked. So I decided it was time for a pedicure. I love getting pedicures and I don't get them often enough. When I decide to get a pedicures I am always so embarrassed by my feet that I pre-pedicure them by basically giving myself a pedicure. I guess I am trying to fool the person giving the pedicure that I am just in for my monthly appointment :)
As I was "pre-pedicuring" my feet I made a sad discovery. A common occurrence among many long distance runners is the loss of toe nails. I have been proud to say in my 10 years as a runner, I had never lost a single toe nail, until...NOW!!! I noticed on my big toe the nail was half way off! My first thought was "I can't go get a pedicure now" my second thought was "I am going to have the ugliest toe for the whole summer." Since my discovery I have been very protective of my big toe trying to make the nail last as long as possible but I am afraid now it is only hanging on by thread. What do I do once it's gone? Should I just paint my skin? Can you get fake toe nails? Should I just have an ugly toe?...I know, I know, this is such a dilemma.
